About Andy Melzer

Andrew “Andy” J. Melzer, a 1984 graduate of Chardon High School, was a cherished member of the Chardon community. He was known for his generosity, dedication, and love for those around him. Born and raised in Chardon, Ohio, Andy made a lasting impact through his professional achievements and his commitment to serving others.

As Vice President of Melzer’s Fuel Service, Andy played a key role in growing the family business into a respected fuel supplier across multiple states. His leadership and entrepreneurial spirit were evident as he helped expand the company’s reach and reputation, always maintaining a strong connection to his hometown roots.

Beyond his business success, Andy was deeply committed to his community. After years of dedicated service, he retired from the Chardon Volunteer Fire Department and was actively involved in organizations like the Chardon F.O.E. 2261 and the VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post 6519. His generosity and fun-loving nature endeared him to many, and he found great joy in camping, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family, especially his son, Andrew J. “Drew” Melzer II.

Andy’s untimely passing on September 18, 2015, at the age of 48, left a void in those who knew him. He is remembered fondly by his family, including his son Drew, his mother Adele, his brother Rick, his longtime partner Barb Prinkey, and his extensive circle of friends. His father, Richard G. Melzer, preceded him in death.

To honor Andy’s memory and his spirit of giving, this scholarship organization was established to support local students and community causes. By fostering education and community service, the foundation ensures that Andy’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for Chardon lives on, inspiring others to continue his example of generosity.
